Windswept, flushed, and natural all go some way to describing the outdoorsy makeup trend. The look was championed by Topshop Unique and Max Mara for AW15, and saw bare faces lifted with rosy cheeks and smudged pink lips. Topshop’s girls looked like wholesome country types who’d returned from a jaunty walk on the hilltops, whereas Max Mara’s fresh-faced beauties were inspired by a 1960s photo shoot of Marilyn Monroe on the beach. This is the perfect trend for when you’re trying to look a little more effortless, and a little less made-up. Want to create the look? Here’s how.
First up, let’s start with the eyes. Autumnal colours work best here, so choose a rich warm brown shadow with an orangey warmth. Here I’ve used Mac’s eye shadow in Saddle.
Using a fluffy brush, apply the colour to the crease of the eye lid and buff from the outer corner to the inner corner.
Next sweep any remaining product that’s on the brush along the lower lash line and apply a touch of mascara to the top of the lashes, leaving the bottom bare.
To create that post-country-walk glow, apply a cream blush to the apples of the cheeks. Here I’ve used 210 from Makeup Forever’s HD collection. Apply it using the palm of your hand, dipping the base in a little product and softly pushing it onto the cheeks. This gives a really fresh and natural finish.
Then buff over the edges of the cheeks with a fluffy blusher brush.
Finally, pat the cream blush softly onto your lips for a smudged, just-kissed look.
